The Maiden

She was young, pretty and industrious. Now she had hurriedly and in shame left the household where she grew. She had grown to love that family that she had given her service. She herself was confuse why she had fallen for that man. He was not handsome, but the way he had treated her had made her heart flutter.  She had been thinking about him, feeling a bit guilty at first and then one night it happened. He had always looked upon her like she was the most beautiful girl in the world. And in that night, she felt ecstasy, as he caressed her, feeling his quivering hands. And that night she turned into a woman.
They would looked at each other secretly...but then their secret was discovered by her tita...and all the pressures that society could muster had been shot at her..and she left hurriedly like she was some kind of criminal. He had chased her then, but no amount of soft words or promises could let her change her mind. She hated the "maniac". She had seen his broken heart, but she will not bulge a single bit now. She had made up her mind to forget him.
"Wasn't he good (was so good)...wasn't he fine (was so fine)...isn't it madness he can't be mine.." she had sang along this song. as she hurriedly left her home where she grew. And his heart was broken, she knew it, but she wanted no trouble and shame....

The Wife's Maids

And now here she was alone with her two children. She had taken another young maid to take care of their newly bought home. She thought to herself that the maid was quite sexually attractive, and if her husband was here, he be having an affair with this one again. She hated him in her heart, why was he such  a maniac. Probably even if she dresses a wooden post like a girl, he would still go for it.
Her first maid had eloped with a lover, and she had taken this one, praying she stay put. She was industrious and seemed to be innocent and harmless. She remembered the maid in her former home with whom that her husband had an affair. She too was industrious, young and sexually attractive and she had come to love that girl. She cannot believed it that she would fall for her husband. Her husband had reasoned with her that he too had grown to love that young maid and did not want her to be taken by any other household or any man. Stating that it would be a waste if they loss her. And she had quarreled the maid and even pulled her hair. The young maid had left in shame which broke her husbands heart. He had then been very quiet  ever since, like a boy who lost his favorite toy. And she had seen him several times after that with tears rolling down his eyes And she had given him the finally too...to teach him a hard lesson.
She remembered he had reasoned with her that no maid would stay in their house, since everyone wanted to have their own husband and  family too. And by the way her first maid had left eloping, it seemed to suggest that he was speaking the truth. And she remembered too that how he said that no maid would give her loyalty to a house that she is a stranger- a family that she has no relation with. He had said that in the first wave society, maid that were made into a wife by a husband were called concubines. She had reasoned that such a practiced was not allowed now.  But he had said that what is true and right would sooner or later be discovered by people, and they would practiced them again like in the days of old.  With the ancient is wisdom, he said.

The Sinful Husband

Now his wife and their children had left him. He was worried about her treat that she will had an affair too. He was most specially worried about his little girl who was a teener now. What if his wife had made good her treat and is now living with her dream man? What if the new man in her life would take interest in their daughter and molest her. He knew the nature of men, for he himself was a man.
His wife had caught him this 7th time having a secret affair with their maid. His conscience was clear about it.  He did not consider it a sin against God to have an affair with their maid. He had reasoned with his wife about it, but she did not believed him. Their pastor and church members had backed up his wife regarding the matter..and she had left him to teach him a lesson. What a painful lesson he thought. But he knows that even if his wife would come back the same problem would popped up. He had a different mind from them.
They were unequally yoke-his wife and him. He thought that one of them was a sheep while another was another kind of beast. Who was who? He was sure who he was, and knew in whom he had believed, but he was unsure about the state of mind of his wife. He had taught her that she should be obedient to him, but she would not yield. He had cited the Bible as his authority. But everyone had pinpointed that his way of thinking was wrong. From his pastor to the church members, from his neighbors to his co-employees; from his children and even his male friends. Yes, his male friends who were always in beer houses tabling with amorous waitresses and G.R.O.'s; even them had told him he was wrong. What he did was TABOO around him. He was alone....

The Righteous Wife

She had left her husband because he had not been "faithful" to her. He had an "illicit" affair with an other woman, and she had found out about it, and being a righteous wife, had left him. She had warned him for several times  that she will leave him, if he had another affair. So when she had known about this 7th affair she had left him. Took her two kids away and had purchased a house and lot. The kids cried when they left the man of the house, but she will teach him a lesson. And she had made her heart as hard as a stone, unfeeling..and had focus on the kids to forget her "idiotic" husband. Despite his plea for them to comeback, she had ignored him.
Now they were separated...and she had entertained some "dream men", and had even fantasize one making love to her...Was she guilty of adultery? She had justified her thoughts..to quiet her conscience. But her conscience had bothered her...there seem to be something wrong with the way she handled his unfaithfulness. She thought how everyone in church had looked up upon her as a righteous wife, and even praised her, but now it seemed she was as dirty as her husband.
In the quiet of the night, when it was quite cold, she remembered how her husband had hugged her in bed. No it was not sensual, but kinda like the hugged of security her father had given her as a child. It seemed that they were just like brother and sister as the years had passed from their honeymoon. There were times when they made love satisfactorily, but most of the time, it was not as enjoyable like when they were just newly wed.
Now her father had been dead for several years now, and she had no one to asked about her problem, except the pastor. The pastor had advised her to give the husband an ultimatum...and now this was the fruit of her decision. She had looked up upon the Pastor as a man of God, so how could his advise be wrong.

Crooked Cornerstones

The house had began to lean to ward the left. Cracked on the concrete posts, beams and walls had began to show. The house was in danger of falling down upon them that live therein. How accurately did the leaning house symbolize the society he had lived in all his life. He had told them about the false foundation on which they stand, but most would not believe him. He had told them about the biggest lie that satan had pulled under their noses, but they laughed at him, and some even got angry with him. And he had practiced Christian charity toward them.
He had sang Don Francisco song Crooked Cornerstone to himself, how accurately apt for this false tradition...
"If you build upon a crooked cornerstone
How you gonna make it stand
If your ship goes down in heavy seas
How you gonna get to land
What you gonna do if the river rises
And your house is upon the sand...
                 They heard the commandment
                  but did not obey
                  They hardened their hearts
                   And wandered away
From the commandments of God and the blessings He gave
To traditions of men and YOKE of a SLAVE...."

"I saw satan laughing with delight..."another song lyrics cross his head, but it was clear to him now. From the  religious left he was looked upon as bad, and to the secular right he was looked upon as a holy roller. He was in between...The left had called him worldly, while the right had termed him a religious fanatic...

The Pastor

This member had been questioning him about their teaching on marriage. And he had answered him thoroughly, but still this member had proven him wrong from the Holy Scripture. It had already happened several times. He had been annoyed with this pestilent fellow. Why is he so interested about marriage. Did the man had some hidden agenda? The man had asked him if he was willing to preach THE TRUTH about marriage even if it means that outsiders and even majority of the church members would go against the Truth, and he had answered this man in the affirmative. He will preached the Truth even if people would persecute him, even if the whole world would go against him, he had told the pestilent fellow. But now the pestilent fellow had told him that the ball was in his hand; and that it was now his responsibility to tell the Truth about marriage. But he didn't understand what the pestilent fellow was driving at.
And then it happened. A rich member who had a very beautiful wife, feel in love with a young but poor girl. The rich man was about 45 years old while the formerly rich but now poor girl, was about 23 years old. The wife had known about the affair, and she had let herself be impregnated by an other man, to avenge herself of her "unfaithful rich husband. And she died while giving birth , and it had caused great sorrow upon the rich man. And what was he, as pastor to do? He neither had scolded the rich man, nor had advised her wife while she was yet alive. Nor did he had anything to say about the scandal. For in truth, he was soberly lacking in knowledge of the Scripture regarding marriage. All he knows was that marriage was supposed to be holy, and that husband ought to love his wife as Christ love the church. His knowledge was traditional. Did he err in not knowing the scripture?
He remembered that the pestilent fellow had asked him what a man should do if he had two wives? And he had answered that the man should leave his "kerida" even if he had children with her. But the pestilent fellow had answered him that You do err in not knowing the scripture..for God said that if a man had two wives he should treat them justly citing Exodus 21:10, a chapter just from the 10 commandments. God said thus, but you say that he should leave his 2nd wife...your words pastor and that of God doesn't square. And he had answered this one pestilent fellow that it was an old testament teaching; and that the new testament teach otherwise. And then,  the man had asked him if the Laws of God changes through time..and he had answered yes...so the man said if the Laws of God could be change by God at will...was God a constant God? And he had answered that God changeth not...and he he had referred him to an elder, so he could be free from this pest of a church member. But now, he had also excommunicated the elder to whom he referred the fellow...
ahhh....he was growing old indeed, the pastor thought to himself.

The Dirty Old Man

He remembered it well! The ugly old man was crying and trying to beat his pretty wife and  he had intervened in her behalf.  She had been looking  upon him like he was a hero, and now he had lived up to her expectation. He had glimpse at her slim waist and lips that seem to call upon his primal instinct. And now he had opened his mouth feeling proud as he said, "Tiyoy, that is not the way to treat a lady!"The old  man answered him that it was none of his business. And he punched the dirty old man, sending him crawling on the ground with his ugly mouth bleeding. The wife then ran away, still looking at him, as if telling him that she would go with him. And he hurriedly left the scene feeling like he was a hero; still hearing the sob and despair of the DOM...that is just right for you dirty old man!" he whispered to himself as he speed away. This was 20 year ago.
But now, he was already 45 years old, and he was on the ground with his mouth bleeding. He spat out some broken teeth mixed with  saliva and blood. He had been hit by a much younger and stronger man. His young wife had been looking amorously at the young man  like she wanted him in bed with her. And he had scolded her, and the young man intervened, holding his hand as he tried to slap her. And when he tried to hit the young man, he had hit him first. Now he was on the ground. Feeling the humiliation of such a situation. What was he to do? How should he deal with his wayward wife? Was God measuring him like the measure he once did to that old man long ago? He felt the tears rolling down his painful cheek.  He didn't feel like getting up and looking at all those around him. His wife is now hurling at him all kinds of dirty words and accusations; some were false, some were true and some he didn't anymore care to hear. He was thinking now of their children-young and innocent, what future waits for them?
